Mount Shasta is the perfect training ground for aspiring mountaineers looking to build real-world glacier and alpine skills—and summit a classic 14er while you're at it.

This 5-day expedition is designed for folks who want to take their mountain skills to the next level through professional instruction and a true summit push. You’ll learn critical techniques like footwork, self-arrest, rope systems, and crevasse rescue, then put it all into action as we climb through the iconic Red Banks to Shasta’s 14,180 ft summit.

Itinerary:

Day 1 – Hike In & Settle In
We kick off with a gear check in Mount Shasta City, then hike to base camp. After settling in, we dive into trip planning and foundational footwork techniques—followed by a hearty alpine dinner.

Day 2 – Climb to 50/50 Camp + Ice Axe Skills
We move higher up the mountain and cover key snow travel skills including ice axe use, footwork, and self-arrest techniques in a variety of positions.

Day 3 – Crevasse Rescue & Glacier Systems
We focus on rope skills, crevasse rescue, and haul systems:

  • Rope management & coiling

  • Snow anchors & glacier belays

  • Ascension systems

  • Self-arrest under load

  • Rescue drills + team planning

After an early dinner, it’s early to bed—summit day starts well before dawn.

Day 4 – Summit Day
We go for the top. An alpine start brings us through the Red Banks and toward the summit at 14,180 feet. You’ll apply all the skills from the course to move safely and efficiently as a rope team.

Day 5 – Hike Out & Celebrate
Sleep in, enjoy a relaxed breakfast, and descend with new skills, new summit stories, and plenty of stoke.
