Intro to backpacking course in the Grand Canyon

Length: 3 Days. Distance: ~16 miles. Starting location: Grand Canyon Village

Itinerary: subject to change due to nature of weather, guide discretion, permits, and conditions

Day One:
We rendezvous at the Grand Canyon Village Visitors Center to say hello to our instructors, do a gear check, and get our first camp set up. Let the learning begin. We will learn how to pack our packs, plan for long hikes in the desert, and read a map and compass. We’ll then top the evening off by eating amazing food!

Day Two:
We’ll hike further into the canyon to gain some experience identifying features on the map and creating good habits on trail. You will learn about plants and animals to keep an eye out for and how to make the best desert camp. In addition to our skill sharpening seminar we will have an excellent opportunity to take in the majesty of the canyon. What a great opportunity to practice being present.

Day Three:
After a glorious breakfast, we begin our journey back to the trailhead. We'll arrive at our cars with plenty of time to catch a beautiful sunset. Need restaurant recommendations in town? Your instructor knows all the best spots before your drive or flight home.
