Ishinca Valley Peaks & Alpine Skills – 6-Day Guided Expedition in Peru

The Cordillera Blanca is calling.
Ishinka Valley is one of Peru’s most spectacular alpine playgrounds — a glacier-carved valley surrounded by jagged peaks, turquoise lakes, and crisp Andean air. It’s the perfect training ground for aspiring mountaineers looking to sharpen real-world alpine skills and stand on top of classic 5,000+ meter summits.

This 6-day expedition blends technical instruction with high-altitude climbing in the heart of the Cordillera Blanca. You’ll learn critical techniques like glacier travel, self-arrest, rope systems, and crevasse rescue — then put it all into action as we climb peaks like Urus Este and Ishinca, surrounded by snow and ice in every direction.

Big learning. Big mountains. Big Andes energy. Let’s climb.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Meet in Huaraz & Gear Check
We’ll meet in the mountain hub of Huaraz for a full gear check, trip briefing, and final shopping for any last-minute items. The evening is free to enjoy the lively plaza and get a taste of Peruvian mountain culture.

Day 2 – Trek into Ishinca Valley Base Camp
From the trailhead in Pashpa, we hike through Quechua villages, wildflower meadows, and glacial streams into Ishinca Valley. Base camp sits in a grassy meadow beneath towering peaks — the perfect classroom for our first skill sessions.

Day 3 – Glacier Skills on Urus Este
We make our first climb on Urus Este, learning efficient snow travel, ice axe techniques, and rope team movement. The summit offers sweeping views of Tocllaraju, Ranrapalca, and the heart of the Cordillera Blanca.

After skills, we rest and prepare for the bigger climb tomorrow.

Day 4 – Rest Day
Trust me you will want it. besides, where else will you find the time to learn some mountain classic card games.

Day 5 – Ishinka Summit Day
An alpine start takes us up Ishinka’s broad glacier to its airy summit at 5,530 m (18,143 ft). We apply all our new skills while managing the thin Andean air. The sunrise views over Tocllaraju and the surrounding range are unforgettable.

Day 6 – Hike Out & Celebrate in Huaraz
We pack camp, hike out through the valley, and return to Huaraz for a well-earned celebration — and maybe a round of fresh ceviche or pisco sours.
